Day 22 - To Redondela

Started at dawn, shortly before 9 am. Foggy from the beginning, then drizzle and by 11am rain.

Not much to say today.  I have a very uncomfortable pain in my neck that made the day hard for me. 

The stage has a very steep climb and a very steep down hill.  Both hard going up and the way down hard on my knee.  Wonder Woman as usual being wonderful and caring for me with all the patience of the world.

We saw a few pilgrims, we talked and walked for an hour or two with Bruno from Switzerland.  He is also an old guy and he says el Caminho was in his bucket list. 

When we arrived to the outskirts of Redondela, Brenda said we needed to find a bathroom.  I know that walking into town can take over an hour so when I saw a man going into his house I asked him if she could use his bathroom.  He right away said yes.  Spaniards are always so nice to us.  Nice man with a nice modern home and beautiful children.

We walked into town in the rain not knowing where to go.  There are not many places to stay in Redondela.  Eventually I went to ask in a supermarket and after a consultation of 3 or 4 ladies, they appointed one to tell us where the hotel is.  She guided us to a bakery. Apparently there are very few visitors at this time of the year so they manage the hotel from the bakery.  We did get a nice modern room.

After a shower we went back to the bakery for dinner, pizza, a huge croissant and a cup of hot chocolate so thick that is more like a pudding.

Now, ready for bed and thinking we may take a day off tomorrow and rest here

Oh my Jesus, keep us close to you, we ask you also to bring all our family closer to you.

Day 17 - To Casa Fernanda in Lugar de Corgo

Walked today: 13.8 km No of steps: 17,863 steps Total walked: 246.1 km We took a taxi to the outskirts of Barcelos, we wanted a short day and I'm still avoiding steep hills. It is very different walking in town, like in Braga, than walking on roads and trails with a 10 kg backpack.  But we did fine.  The day started a bit cool but within half an hour I was sweating and ready to take off my fleece.  Very soon the temperature started to rise and very soon felt like the 30 C that is the high for today. We had some highway with no shoulders, cobblestones roads and dirt trails.  After a couple of hours we went by a modern church that was open, it was our opportunity to pray the rosary so we took it. It took us Abit over 4 hours to get to Lugar de Corgo and Casa Fernanda.  We went in a did not see anyone so we went ahead and sat in the shade. Eventually Fernanda came out and received us like old friends.  He gave us the only bedroom which is in the house and we settled ourselves

To Blog or not to blog

This time I was not going to blog but several friend keep asking: where is your blog?  So I am going to try. This would be our (Wonder Woman and me) 4th Camino, this is our history, starting when I was only 70 years old: 1) 2013  Camino Frances; starting in Sarria with Marly Camino.  De Luxe trip, de luxe accomodations, great places to eat, tours around the Camino,and a support bus to start the walk in Sarria  walk only 100km.  When they took us to O'Cebreiro and we saw pilgrims, I mean real pilgrims arriving, I wanted to be one of them. 2) 2014 Camino Frances: starting in Roncesvalles. Around  800 km,  I don't know how we did this.  Wonder Woman had to take me 3 times to emergency.  Northen Spain mountains are so beatiful but sometimes very hard to climb.  It was an incredible adventure and an incredible spiritual experience. 3) 2015 Caminho Portugues: Shorter and easier, Around 650 Km starting in Lisboa.  No doctors this time but lots of blisters and terrib

We have started

Yesterday evening we went to mass at our parish.  St. Jerome.  Father Jan gave us a blessing and we got the first stamp in our pilgrim's credential.  God willing the next stamp will be from the shrine of our Lady of Fatima. Then, remembering that in previous pilgrimages I had problems loading photos into the blog, I decided to test.  The result is that the app still does not work.  The app reviews have lots of complaints on this issue but Google just has not fixed it. Blogger works fine in my computer but I am only going to have my phone. The easiest thing for me to do is to write here and post the pictures in Facebook. Only three more days and we are off.
